The Chicago Luxury Ice Cream Festival is this Friday & Saturday, July 30-31, 2010 and Northeast Cooling is proud to be a sponsor! In the event of a freezer or cooler break down we are lending our services to make the necessary repair. After all, we love Ice Cream & we specialize in all types of commercial refrigeration service, so it is a perfect fit.

We are happy to announce a ticket giveaway on our blog: We will be giving a pair of tickets to the festival to one lucky winner who participates in this blog contest.

Please leave a comment on this blog post, recommending your favorite ice cream shop and/or your favorite ice cream dessert in the Chicago-land area, so I can learn about a few new places to check out! Hopefully your favorite will be on hand at the Luxury Ice Cream Fest!

Here are two of my favorite ice cream spots.

Margies Candies 1960 North Western Avenue, Chicago. I recommend Grandpa’s Turtle Sundae. Carmel & Hot Fudge Sundae topped with a Homemade Turtle Candie!

Village Creamery in Niles is great too! Two of my current favorites are macapuno – sweetened young coconut in coconut flake ice cream & paludeh – rose water and lime sherbet with pistachios and rice noodles.

Have you tried Halo-halo yet? It is a popular Filipino dessert that is a godsend in hot weather. This scrumptious dessert has lots of layers, kind of like a 7 layer taco salad. First it starts off with shaved ice. Then you add sweetened beans, watery nata de coco (a kind of coconut jello), and other fruits such as banana, jackfruit, or whatever is your liking (cocktail fruit will work too). Then you drizzle the mound with sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk and add 2 large scoops of ube (purple) ice cream and vanilla ice cream and to finish off you sprinkle it with some good ole’ crunchy cornflakes. Isla Pilipina on 2501 W. Lawrence has their own version of this popular dessert that you must try!

Cold Stone Creamery on Halsted off Maxwell Street. I’m vegan, but the rest of my family gets bug-eyed and weepy when I mention Cold Stone! They LOVE their ice cream and so I do as well – bringing THAT much joy deserves applauds.
