Get Ready for Downtown Dash on September 10th in Chicago!

Again this year, Northeast Cooling is proud to work with Leyla Arsan of Lotus Marketing Services and ING DIRECT in sponsoring their upcoming event, Downtown Dash! Northeast Cooling is the hardest working commercial refrigeration repair outfit in town and that means we are also the hardest playing outfit in town. A perfect event for us to sponsor!

Downtown Dash is an Urban Scavenger Hunt like no other!

Where else can you compete with your virtual friends in real time and in real life?  Two person teams will utilize Foursquare and Twitter to receive clues and complete physical challenges for this urban scavenger hunt. Think “The Amazing Race” only with Chicago providing the entire course! You could be running through a hotel lobby, hopping on the El, or paddling down the Chicago River to complete your challenge. Each challenge is sure to be an adventure in itself!

At 11 am on  Saturday September 10th, Downtown Dash will start at ING DIRECT Cafe in Chicago. From there a series of clues will lead you around our glorious city on an adventure to remember.

While you’ll be using your Jedi-Social Media skills to check in at various locations and complete challenges, you’ll also be in the running for some mighty fine loot! This challenge isn’t just about fame and glory and the honor that comes with winning! Oh no! There are prizes to sweeten the deal! Just how can you win those prizes?

“Teams can win prizes for the pre-game competition, the Social Engagement Challenge, and individual challenges on event-day. Three grand prizes are available for first, second and third place teams. Pegmo: Your Social Media Loyalty Punchcard

We know what you’re thinking: “Oh boy, yet another Social Media tool that encourages me to check in and display my lunch fare.”

We think Chicago-based startup Pegmo is worth a second look and has more to offer than just letting your friends know where you are and what you’re eating.  Wes Donohoe (@weseddon), Jordan Ho (@sneakstar), and Sanjay Kapoor (@sanjman7) have created a Social Media platform that encourages customer loyalty and interaction with businesses through rewards. In a recent interview with Sean McGinnis of 312 Digital (@SeanMcGinnis), Donohoe likens Pegmo to the paper punchcards of days gone past. Pegmo is a virtual punchcard where consumers are rewarded for engaging with friends and businesses via the Social Media networks they already frequent.

Pegmo seamlessly ties together several of the Social Networks that you may already use on a daily basis: Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare. The idea is that you find your friends and businesses, connect with them, then you earn Pegs in order to gain “rewards” much in the same way the paper loyalty card afforded you a free coffee after the purchase of 10. Many of us will go the distance to achieve the coveted “free” item. It’s a game and we all like to win!

We aren’t the only ones that think that Donohoe is on to something, (Crain’s) and both had positive things to say about the Chicago startup.  Ellen Malloy of says that “Social media takes loyalty programs to the next level.”  When you allow someone to publicly earn their prize, not only are they feeling a sense of pride and joy, but they are sharing their joy and that prize with all of their followers and thereby directing their followers virtual gaze toward businesses that offer incentives. Chicago Earth Day Green Event with @MafiaHairdreser

Earth Week is fast approaching and Northeast Cooling would like to invite you to a very special Earth Week event taking place on Monday, April 18th 2011 from 5:45 to 8:00 pm.


Please join us for @MafiaHairdreser’s GREEN CHICAGO Earthday Celebration at Joseph Michael’s Salon and Spa in Chicago. This event brings “Social Media Royalty” together with a variety Chicagoland Green Groups.

Tickets are $10 and include food, beverages , and a secret recipe “Mafia-Mojito” concocted by jon-david, @MafiaHairdresser himself!

Northeast Cooling is proud to help sponsor the Chicago screening of the upcoming Twitter documentary, Twittamentary.

Produced by Singaporean film maker, Siok Siok Tan (@sioksiok), Twittamentary examines how people interact, and are effected, on a daily basis via the online social network, Twitter. Tan interviewed people across America including a travel “celebrity,” a homeless woman that Tweets from the public library, and a prostitute that uses Twitter to display her geographic location.

We are especially excited because our friend AnnMarie ( @padschicago ) is featured in the film. In addition to supporting one of our own, 100% of the profits from this event will be going to Deborah’s Place which is AnnMarie’s new home!
